“Sometime in December, they approached us and asked if they could put their sign up in our window,” Selvaggio explained. “We didn’t want to take sides and post people’s political views that could alienate some of our customers, so we told them no.

“Then,” he continued, “they started boycotting the store. Sometimes there would be four or five people, sometimes as many as 20, and they’re out there, loud and belligerent, disrupting the flow of traffic, telling people that we’re racist and that we support segregation. They’re here almost every day for about two or three hours at a time, and they probably turn away 10 or 15 (customers) each time.”

Detroit News: Mayor's home burglarized while he was sleeping

"Ferndale Mayor Craig Covey said Wednesday that he slept through a break-in during which someone took jewelry from his bedroom and stole car keys before driving off with his SUV. Ferndale Police Chief Michael Kitchen said whoever committed the thefts was 'quite stealthy.'"

Wine bar raises residents' ire

Pleasant Ridge's planning commission has approved granting a resident a liquer license for a wine bar.  The bar is located near the corner of Oakridge and Woodward.

Library trustee resigns, applications being accepted

Kenneth Miller, longtime member of the Ferndale Library Board, has announced that he has resigned from the board effective April 1, 2008.

Commenting on his resignation, Miller said "It has been my pleasure to serve the citizens of Ferndale as a Trustee for the Ferndale Public Library. I’m so proud that I was allowed to be a part of a library board with the vision to see our library as a beacon of light--a place that draws our community together—and with the desire and determination to see that vision through. We have shown that together we as concerned citizens could create a state-of-the-art library, where all people can gather to enjoy both books and the arts. I am thankful that I could be part of such a major venture in my community’s life.”
