Business leaders call for repeal of shopping district
Monday, 14 April 2008
Downtown officials now want the City Council to repeal an ordinance that created a Principal Shopping District in the expanded downtown less than a year ago.
Cristina Sheppard-Decius, executive director of the Downtown Development Authority, said the DDA board has voted in favor of repealing the PSD measure.
An anti-PSD group of businesses and residents headed by Tiffani Gagne has been circulating petitions for a special election Aug. 5 asking voters to repeal the PSD ordinance.
The group, called the No PSD Committee, successfully fought off a DDA move early this year to enact a tax on all businesses in the 26-block PSD that council created last June.
